The Mark Rothko 2024 symposium to close with an exhibition opening

At 4 p.m. on Friday, 27 September, the Rothko Museum in Daugavpils will close the Mark Rothko 2024 International Painting Symposium with a new exhibition and a public meeting with the resident artists.

The Mark Rothko International Painting Symposium has reached its twentieth instalment, a milestone that reflects endurance and promises sustained development in years to come. Held annually in September, this resonant creative forum commemorates Mark Rothko’s birthday in his native town.

The 2024 symposium brought together nine outstanding artists representing the US, Poland, Germany, India, Macedonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. Every participant contributed to the symposium experience by giving artist talks and public presentations and by distilling their impressions into artworks. The artists delved into the themes and subjects that captured their imaginations and demonstrated their distinct creative styles. The artworks featured in the exhibition will remain in the museum’s collection as a reminder of this vibrant and intense creative fortnight and an enduring testament to Rothko’s timeless impact on the artists of today.

The Mark Rothko 2024 symposium exhibition features Jaye Alison Moscariello (USA), Tomasz Kopcewicz (Poland), Joanna Mankiewicz (Poland), Jaakov Blumas (Germany), Prajjwal Choudhury (India), Irena Paskali (Macedonia/Germany), Kristina Mažeikaitė (Lithuania), Vitalija Petraitytė (Lithuania), and Žanna Vērdiņa (Latvia).

The Mark Rothko 2024 symposium exhibition will be on show through 17 November 2024.

Admission to the exhibition opening is free of charge.
