Mark Rothko 2026 symposium | Exhibition opening
Join us for the final highlight of the Mark Rothko 2026 international painting symposium!
For two weeks, ten artists from the United States, Austria, Estonia, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Poland, Spain and Latvia have been working in Rothko’s native city, creating new works in dialogue with his legacy.
On 2 October, 4 PM, the Rothko Museum invites you to the opening of the exhibition that brings these works together for the first time. The display reflects the diversity of contemporary painting across cultures while capturing the shared spirit of exploration and creative exchange that defines the symposium format. Following the exhibition, selected artworks enter the Rothko Museum Collection, further strengthening its holdings of contemporary painting.
Featuring Nicole Mueller (USA), Gustavs Filipsons (Latvia), André Hemer (New Zealand/Austria), Weronika Hempel (Poland), Mice Jankulovski (North Macedonia), Rosa Juanco (Spain), Vilen Künnapu (Estonia), Henry Mandell (USA), Peter Maslow (USA) and Emma Velde-Schaffer (New Zealand).
