EXHIBITION OF IV INTERNATIONAL TEXTILE AND FIBER ART SYMPOSIUM

Latgalian culture has long traditions of textile art. Over the last 50 years, their professional development in Latvia has coincided with moving away from purely utilitarian household objects to a quest for constant changes and turning points in techniques, materials and soaring of the imagination.

Textile art is one of the most versatile artistic disciplines, which includes classical manifestations as well as bold experimentation and pursuit of original authoring techniques. Therefore, the textile art symposium is one of the most creative symposia organised by the Rothko Centre.

This year, the international textile art symposium has nine participants from eight different countries: Ellie Niblock (Ireland), Kasia Tons (Australia), Karina Korotkova (Latvia), Koenig Lucy (Germany), Anouk Desloges (Canada), Julia Strikovska (Ukraine), Wonju Kim (South Korea), Diane Lavoie (USA) and Sophie Lawniczak (Germany).

The artists’ work will be displayed at the Rothko Centre until 26 November 2017, enabling everyone to experience the similarities and differences in current developments of textile and fibre art across the globe.
