Rothko Museum Announces Residency Call for Textile and Fibre Artists from France

Textile and fibre artists living and working in France are invited to apply for an individual residency at the Rothko Museum in Daugavpils, Latvia. The residency will take place in autumn 2026 and will last up to two weeks. Applications are open until 30 June 2026.
The residency is organised by the Rothko Museum and the French Institute in Latvia to enrich the museum’s collection with works by contemporary French artists.
Applications are open to artists based in France. Submissions will be assessed based on the application form, motivation statement, CV and portfolio. Priority will be given to artists working with recycled or repurposed materials.
The French Institute in Latvia will cover travel between France and Daugavpils, accommodation and living expenses during the residency, and basic materials for the project.
The Rothko Museum will provide studio space, essential equipment and tools, technical support, publicity and an introduction to the city and its cultural institutions. Following a successful residency, the museum may offer opportunities to present the work in a future exhibition or another public format at the Rothko Museum or elsewhere in Daugavpils.
Artists are responsible for supplying any specialised materials and tools required for their work and for donating one artwork created during the residency to the Rothko Museum.
Applications must be submitted by midnight on 30 June 2026 via the application form available on the Rothko Museum website.
Applications will be reviewed by a joint jury of representatives from the Rothko Museum and the French Institute in Latvia. Results will be announced by 27 July 2026. Selected artists will be asked to confirm their participation within five days of receiving the invitation.
The residency will take place at the Rothko Museum in Daugavpils between 5 October and 30 November 2026. Exact dates will be agreed with the selected artist.
The residency programme is supported by Fravia.
