CERAMIC LABORATORY [closing]

In the beginning of the IV International Ceramic Art Symposium CERAMIC LABORATORY in Daugavpils, no one could guess the content of the final exhibition of the symposium because ceramic art is usually influenced by many unpredictable factors, which often lead to the most unpredicted and sudden turns resulting in something different and maybe even better. The Symposium took place in Daugavpils for the fourth time, and this year it is the final event of the 1st Latvian International Ceramic Biennale, as well as a lyric introduction to the following ceramic events in Daugavpils.

During the Symposium, each author tried to highlight their individual artistic styles and manners, by working hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder, and searching for contact and impact points, because traditionally a symposium is a place and time to study and learn from each other, from what peers have mastered in and tested over period of many years. It is an opportunity to share their experiences and to learn from peer achievements in the field of ceramic technologies.

Intensive, sometimes tense two weeks of work have resulted in a “conclusion”. Often participants of symposia do not fully anticipate the overall view of exhibition and its message to viewers, ceramic art works often remain uncompleted to the last day, and “encounter” with art lovers only at the exhibition.

This exhibition is no exception. Face to face through a multi-faced prism of ceramic art one can see similarities and differences of woks created in Daugavpils by 12 artists from 7 countries.
