Rothko Center become more valuable
All year long, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center, thanks to artists and other supporters, supplemented collection with new valuable gifts in different art media.
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center, since it’s foundation in 2013, annually supplemented collection with valuable gifts: artwork, catalogs, publications, video materials and books. These valuable gifts Rothko Center received from artists and other cooperation partners as a trust proof of the successful cooperation.
In 2016, were received 19 works in the following art media: paintings, graphics, ceramics and metal art, and they were received from the following artists: Irīna Ošleja, Silva Veronika Linarte, Jānis Murovskis, Juris Gagainis, Sigita Daugule, Nele Zirnīte, Viktorija Valujeva, Barbara Gaile, Baņuta Ancāne, Izabella Krolle and Mark Rothko friend Paul Huxley from United Kingdom.
Also, quite unexpectedly, is to receive gifts from the people who the activities of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre learned just from the Internet. This year, in autumn, in England living artist Basil Alkazzi, for Rothko Centre library send 14 valuable art books and in its accompanying letter promised to send up some more books on the basis of the understanding the value of art literature.
At the moment, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre collection contains 1533 art works, while the library’s collection consist of 1500 items, which are publicly available to all interests and Rothko Center library visitors. While, the art works from collection will continue to be exhibited in various art spaces in Daugavpils, other Latvian cities and abroad.
