MARTINSONS AWARD 2023 selection results
The selection results of International Contemporary Ceramics Competition MARTINSONS AWARD 2023 within 4th Latvia Ceramics Biennale.
This time, 685 outstanding applications were received from artists from 71 countries, including 68 applications from Latvian artists, which is by far the largest number of applications in the history of the Martinson Award competition exhibition.
The jury evaluated each application separately only based on the images of the submitted competition works with the anonymous names of the authors. The final decision was made by summing up all the votes of the jury.
Jury members:
Valentīns Petjko (Latvia) – curator of Latvia Ceramics Biennale, artist;
Dainis Pundurs (Latvia) – artist, tutor, winner of the Martinsons Award 2021 in the National category;
Agne Šemberaite (Lithuania) – artist, curator, winner of the Martinsons Award 2021 in the International category;
Vasi Hirdo (Romania) – editor in chief of Ceramics Now Magazine;
Claudia Casali (Italy) – art theoretician, director of the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza;
Ilona Romule (Latvia) – artist, member of the International Academy of Ceramics (prev. – board member);
Andreia Vale Lourenco (Portugal) – representative of International Biennial of Artistic Ceramics of Aveiro;
Gaëlle Cornut (Belgium) – Artistic Director of Ceramic Art Andenne.

The exhibition will be held in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre, Mihaila street 3, Latvia from September 8, 2023 till February 18, 2024.
After on-site evaluation of the artworks the winners of Martinsons Award 2023 will be announced on the opening day of the exhibition – September 8, 2023.
