Daugavpils about to receive the 2nd international painting symposium dedicated to artist Silva Linarte
From 28 July to 12 August, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will host the 2nd international painting symposium “Silva Linarte”, thereby continuing the tradition established in 2019.
To honour the contribution to the field of the arts by the locally affiliated art educator Silva Veronika Linarte /1939-2018/ and appreciate the uniqueness of her artistic legacy as well as to promote interest in Daugavpils as an artistically stimulating city, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre invited international artists to apply for this symposium, implemented within the framework of its residency programme, and create unique artworks that will be incorporated into the centre’s painting collection.
This year, six artists from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland will participate in the symposium: Osvalds Zvejsalnieks (Latvia), Ingrīda Ivane (Latvia), Ričardas Garbačiauskas (Lithuania), Katarzyna Kowalska (Poland), Franciszek Ledóchowski (Poland) and Liisa Kruusmägi (Estonia).
The symposium is accompanied by an exhibition, “Two Summits”, assembled from the collection of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre and featuring select artwork by Silva Linarte and Pēteris Martinsons.
At 4 p.m. on 5 August at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre, by established symposium tradition, participants will give presentations to introduce themselves, their painterly styles, techniques, colours, ideas and philosophies.
The symposium will conclude at 4 p.m. on 12 August with the opening of a group exhibition by symposium participants, who will also receive certificates of participation.
