PETERIS MARTINSONS

(28.01.1931. – 02.08.2013.)

At first sight shy, absorbed in his own thoughts, wise, active and artistically persistent with a deep look and brief, however, such a kindly smile. That were all about Peteris Martinsons.

On August 2, 2013,  he passed away quietly and pensively. He dedicated 50 years of his life to the ceramic art. -Today the dream birds, mischievous devils, faithful dogs and lofty lions created by the great ceramist look at us. The artist will never keep  them in his gentle hands wherefore ceramics can be experienced only by a touch. Peteris’ life was the ceramics in which he will stay eternal.

A lone person,  but not lonely. Peteris always gathered students, like-minded persons, and contemporaries around himself. He possessed a special talent to create and share. He created a special feeling when meeting and lasting feeling when leaving. In future the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will still be the place which will keep and preserve „the children” of Peteris Martinsons and also cherish the memory of distinguished countryman.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to the relatives of Peteris Martinsons.
