Thematic meeting “Art of Relationships” dedicated to the ceramic artist P. Martinsons at the Rothko Art Centre

On Tuesday, January 28 at 15:00 Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre invites artists and art admirers to a meeting with common conversations and a symbolic title “Art of Relationships” that is dedicated to the ceramic artist from our region Pēteris Martinsons. The chosen day and the people who are invited are not random. On the artist’s birthday, his lifelong friend and the person who shared the same views, architect and artist Ivars Bumbieris and one of the artist’s muses of his professional activity – art researcher Ruta Čaupova will share memories of shared experiences, thoughts about his personality and creative work, as well as views regarding the further immortalization of  P. Martinsons’ name.

Pēteris Martinsons has said that the ceramic artist first has to become friends with the material as it is alive, you have to establish good relationships with it and only then you can go further. P. Martinson’s human and artistic multilateralism is seen in the creative and professional collaboration with representatives of different areas and interests, and even more vividly- in the relationships with different ceramic materials (clay, stone mass, porcelain, chamotte), in the result of which there were made different but at the same time so personal and masterly works of art.

By visiting the retrospective exhibition “Pēteris Martinsons. Ceramics.1963 – 2013” it is possible to find a connection with P. Martinsons through his created works and build up your individual attitude to ceramics as an art media. The exhibition will be displayed in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre from 21st January 2014.
