The 8th International conference “Person. Color. Nature. Music. Rothko and Abstract Expressionism” will be held in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre on May 9 – 10

The Union of Art Teachers and the Department of Art and Design at Daugavpils University organize the 8th International conference “Person. Color.  Nature. Music. Rothko and Abstract Expressionism”, held in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.

The plenary session of the conference and work groups will take place in Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre on May 9 – 10. The conference will be followed by the annual painting plein-air “TAKA”.

Scientists, artists, teachers and students from 10 countries have been registered for the participation in the conference. It is planned that more than 70 papers will be presented at the conference. And within the frame of the conference, a catalogue of 59 artists from 6 countries will be published for the third time already.

The plenary session will also provide the opportunity to listen to the report delivered by the academician, writer, author of the bestseller “J. P. Sartre’s Life”, and diplomat Annie Cohen Solal. The academician from France is now conducting an in-depth research on Rothko’s life and his role in the context of the 20th century culture, commissioned by Yale University. Besides, Annie Cohen Solal will be visiting Daugavpils only two weeks after her first visit when she attended the opening ceremony of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre!

Teachers of visual art from Daugavpils are invited to participate in the conference without participation fees. The conference agenda is available in https://rothkomuseum.com/rmc/konferences/8th-international-conference.
