On 25th of September – Mark Rothko’s 110th anniversary celebration at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre!

On 25th of September when it is Mark Rothko’s 110th anniversary it will be possible to visit all the Centre exhibitions by donating a painting brush (useful for art process), which will be further used for the realization of different education programs.

Throughout the day there will take place different events dedicated to artist’s anniversary.

From 11:00 till 17:00 – first day stamping of the postage stamp dedicated to world famous artist born in Daugavpils – Mark Rothko. Although, at the presentation of this postage stamp, which will be at 12:30 there will participate: Latvian Post management representative, Daugavpils City Council Deputy Chairperson Jānis Dukšinskis, DMRAC Director Aleksejs Burunovs and the author of postage stamp design – Līga Čible.

At 14:00 – Presentation of the memory coin „Mark Rothko – 110” dedicated to the artist with the author of coin’s design – Līga Čible and Rothko Centre curator Farida Zaletilo.

From 15:00 till 16:00 there will be an opportunity to meet with the authors and curators of exhibitions in all exhibitions of the Centre. In Rothko Sector you will meet Valentīna Smertjeva and Farida Zaletilo, curators of the exhibitions; artists Dilwin Smith (UK) and Silva Linarte (LV) will be in Sectors B and D, where their exhibitions are exposed; Lilija Zeiļa, ceramist representing the association „Daugavpils Clay Art Centre” will tell you about the ceramics’ exhibition and International Ceramic Art Symposium; in the exhibition of S. Gershov you will be able to meet artist’s widow T. Fedotova; Z. Stapkeviča, Rothko Centre Collection Manager will tell you more about the exhibition of  P. Martinsons.

At 16:00 there will be „Mark Rothko 2013” exhibition opening.

In the Rothko Centre Concert Hall at 17:00 there will be a concert of AMM – free improvisation band (UK), which is organized in collaboration with Skaņu Mežs,

At 19:00 we invite all city inhabitants to a ceremonious event, where will be seen a colourful fountain performance.
