ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE AWARD for 1st–30th August 2022

The Mark Rothko Memorial Trust has announced the re-launch of their artist award initiative that began in 1973. Beginning again in 2018, the newly launched format of the award is an artist-in-residence in partnership with the Mark Rothko Art Centre in Daugavpils, Latvia.

This year, 4 professional London-based artists – Danny Rolph, Vanessa Mitter, Liz Elton and Andrew Bick – are the successful awardees who were selected and granted by the Trustees of the Mark Rothko Memorial Trust: Professor Paul Huxley (Chair), Tim Marlow (Chief Executive and Director of the Design Museum) and Rebecca Salter (President of the Royal Academy of Arts) and the Trust’s Administrator and Advisor, Laura Culpan (Director, Artwise Curators).

One month of intensive artistic practice, travel experience, and opinion exchange enabled the guest artists to get a sense of the city, local landscape and people. Both sides have aspirations to continue the established dialogue in future projects.
