Artūrs Bērziņš THE FEEDER
- - 10.09.2017
The artist does not stop, but continues to reflect on the interaction between various types of populism and mythologemes and the recipient, easily, ironically, and yet – sensitively balancing between the content and the form of the ambiguously compatible, while “feeding” and “being fed”. Moshe Kupferman was born in 1926 in Jaroslav, south-eastern Poland, to a family of tradesmen who owned a haberdashery store. His father came from a family of coppersmiths – makers of brewery boilers – hence the origin of the family’s name. Iveta Vaivode SWORD LILIES

It is a hot summer day. I’m walking along the path through the nettles, until I find myself in the yard of a long-abandoned house. I see a broken window, and it seems that it gives me a chance to plunge into my childhood for the last time. Maija Dragūne LITHOGRAPHY

Lithography has always been a graphic arts technique which has offered me huge opportunites. The polished surface of white stone proposes a great deal to me. Before I go to work, I have to have a clear idea, because stone will tolerate no repairs. Each application of ink must be fresh and convincing. Marta Ģibiete THE TRAVELLERS

“... Since my childhood, I remember the happy feeling when, amid of a warm summer day, I am resting in the middle of a flowered meadow and watching white, chubby clouds floating in the blue sky. Clouds are floating by. Where do they come from, where do they go? I am imagining how that tattered cloud, that just passed me by, in a few hours will fly over another city or town, and by evening it will be hundreds of kilometres far. Edmunds Tamovičs ON THRESHOLD

Art is a non-stop revelation. Daily. And in all possible forms of knowledge and senses. Each new work, exhibition, author, page of a book, display, acquaintance, travel into imagination can change a person’s life and perception of art. Biruta Delle CITADELLE

Biruta Delle – an Artist, a Dissident, a Classic, an Old Master, who is endowed with an absolute sense of colour – all these terms describe her and yet they are too insufficient and superficial to fully illustrate her personality. Light and time are parents of Biruta. She has inherited her mother’s heart, the father’s wisdom. FORMS OF SILENCE AND EMPTINESS

Forms of silence and emptiness The theme for the exhibition of regional art was chosen not by chance, considering the fact that it is organized by an art Centre named after Mark Rothko. Silence and emptiness are two key concepts that were extremely important and relevant to Rothko’s work, especially to his classic works. Speaking of his artistic method, the master compared it with “creative emptiness”, appealing to the philosophy of Buddhism, in which emptiness has infinite potential: everything in this world happens or “materializes” from “nowhere” and everything goes “nowhere”. SANRI COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY
Friends warned me: watch out, you can open the door you would not want to open. I agree, there are different keys, billions of doors, basically the result is predictable, but there are also doors that are of concern, and if you do not open them, you will never find out what is hidden behind. Yes, maybe you’d be very disappointed, even angry and would hate yourself and others. Would you be a loser? Maybe you would grow stronger in future, as you would be able to recognize those doors and learn how to open or close them whenever it suits you. Yes, mostly you would be very disappointed, because nothing would be hidden behind the door, and still there will doors that will open the Universe for you, which you would never be able to see, if you did not open the door. Our society is run by fear. Of course, some people benefit from it. Do you want to be of advantage for anybody? Richard Denny THE ERA OF SILENCE

The Era of Silence by Richard Denny
Be it for geographical, political or moral reasons, there are times when we, and society fall silent.
The silence occurs when the route is too difficult to navigate as an individual and we are led by the hand and head, sometimes to places we would not choose.
