13th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium Exhibition

The Rothko Museum’s International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium – the largest printmaking event in the Latgale region – convened for the thirteenth time, bringing together ten graphic artists from Latvia and beyond for a two-week collaborative creative endeavour at the historic Daugavpils Fortress.

Working in their preferred artistic techniques, participants from Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Poland, and Latvia explored diverse themes and artistic concerns. They drew from the local landscape, the ever-shifting moods of the Latvian spring, the architectural character of the fortress, and the stimulating symposium programme filled with artist presentations, performances, in-depth discussions, and meaningful creative exchanges.

The artworks produced across the symposium fortnight exemplify the medium’s inherent diversity and each artist’s unique stylistic approach. Drawing upon their personal experiences and perceptions, the artists employed a range of techniques, from lithography, linocut, and etching to serigraphy, aquatint, and digital print. The dynamic and productive nature of their creative exchange culminated in an exhibition featuring both classical two-dimensional pieces and innovative three-dimensional objects. The final showcase stands as a striking testament to the medium’s extensive potential and the exceptional technical mastery of its creators.

The 13th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium featured Ana Vivoda (Croatia), Anatolijs Šandurovs (Latvia), Antonia-Styliani Taralli (Greece), Caterina De Nisco and Michele Bernardini (Italy), Lilli-Krõõt Repnau (Estonia), Łukasz Koniuszy and Martyna Rzepecka (Poland), Sioban Piercy (Ireland), and Sirkku Ketola (Finland).

Organised by the SIVIA association, the symposium unfolded in the Rothko Museum’s residency programme.
