Three Rothko-themed exhibitions
On 2 October, we wrapped up the month of Rothko’s birth with three Rothko-themed exhibitions:
- a multimedia Silent Room centred on Rothko’s classic period and a renewed biographical exhibition featuring animated photographs from the Rothko family archive (digital solutions by Tomega)
- “Soul in Close-Up” – a new selection from the Rothko Museum Collection (curated by Zane Melāne, on view until October 2028)
- group exhibition of the Mark Rothko 2026 international painting symposium (curated by Pāvels Terentjevs, on view until 29 November 2026)
The symposium exhibition features Nicole Mueller (USA), Gustavs Filipsons (Latvia), André Hemer (New Zealand/Austria), Weronika Hempel (Poland), Mice Jankulovski (North Macedonia), Rosa Juanco (Spain), Vilen Künnapu (Estonia), Henry Mandell (USA), Peter Maslow (USA) and Emma Velde-Schaffer (New Zealand).
The Rothko Museum’s Silent Room and the renewed biographical exhibition were developed in cooperation with the Latgale Planning Region under project No. LL-00263, “Modern Art Technologies to Open Museums for Innovation” (MATOMI), co-funded by the European Union’s Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027.
“Soul in Close Up” and “Mark Rotho 2026” were both supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia and the Daugavpils City Council.
