The Fifth Latvia Ceramics Biennale has opened in style with the inaugural exhibition at the C\u0113sis Exhibition Hall, setting the stage for a season of artistic encounters that will continue in September in Daugavpils and Liep\u0101ja.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For ten years, the Latvia Ceramics Biennale has stood as the most prominent and ambitious ceramics event in North-East Europe\u2019s contemporary art scene. Its fifth edition begins its journey to the viewers with a compelling celebration of emerging Latvian talent. Opened on 15 August at the C\u0113sis Exhibition Hall, the exhibition \u2013 aptly titled FRESH \u2013 brings together a group of young women artists who have only recently graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia\u2019s Ceramics Department and are now pursuing independent creative careers: developing their studios, staging exhibitions, leading workshops, and engaging in other activities in their field.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on current trends in Latvian contemporary ceramics, the exhibition\u2019s curators, Aivars Baranovskis and Valentins Petjko, observe:<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s ceramic artists embrace both functionality and decorative grace, creating pieces that speak to urgent, globally resonant themes as readily as to the most intimate personal stories. In the hands of the younger generation especially, the medium fascinates with its unmediated, raw materiality \u2013 a quality inseparably tied to the bodily experience and presence. It is here that ceramics most convincingly dissolves the largely artificial boundaries between art and daily life.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Featuring Egija Gr\u012bnfelde, Katerina Geiduka, Laima Lauri\u0146a, Linda \u0136ivule, Linda Zelta, Marta Pr\u0113dele, Megija Zonne, and Oj\u016bna Batbajara, \u201cFRESH: New Voices in Latvian Ceramics\u201d will be on view at the C\u0113sis Exhibition Hall, Pils Laukums 3, until 28 September.<\/p>\n

With the support of the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia, the exhibition is organised by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics in collaboration with the C\u0113sis Exhibition Hall and the Rothko Museum.<\/p>\n

\n

The Latvia Ceramics Biennale is a landmark event on the European cultural calendar. Organised by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics in partnership with the Rothko Museum, it is both a platform for documenting achievements in the field through group and solo exhibitions and a continuous driver of new creative explorations.<\/em><\/p>\n

The biennale\u2019s fifth edition, themed \u201cFrom Stardust to Lush Sprouts\u201d, invites reflection on materiality \u2013 its forms and transformations, and the enduring value it acquires over time. This evocative concept will unfold across a rich programme of exhibitions and cultural events throughout August and September 2025 in Daugavpils, Liep\u0101ja, and C\u0113sis.<\/em><\/p>\n
